Anaerobic Digestion

Anaerobic Digestion: Waste to Energy

Anaerobic digestion is a fantastic, cost effective solution that converts waste to energy. Agecko specialises in collection of ‘feed’ waste, generated from factory lines and out of date stock. High calorific feed waste material is mixed in with food waste to be re-processed into energy from the anaerobic digestion (or AD) plant.

We are committed to recycling as much waste as possible. As food waste accounts for over 40% of all waste going to landfill in the UK (wrap.org.uk) this is an important waste stream.  Biodegradable material (i.e. inedible food waste and organic material) can be broken down by a process called anaerobic digestion. This creates biogas, which can be combusted to generate electricity and heat or processed into renewable natural gas and transportation fuels.

Anaerobic digestion is a sustainable food waste management solution. It is an environmentally friendly, cost effective process which diverts waste from landfill and incineration. Converting waste to energy reduces carbon emissions and powerful greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere.

Natural biogas is created in sealed anaerobic (meaning ‘the absence of oxygen’) tanks. This generates low cost, low carbon renewable energy.  The remaining substance after the process is complete is called digestate, a nutrient-rich bio-fertiliser.

Agecko understands the importance of recycling food waste. The UK has a 50% recycling target that we all need to work together to achieve. Agecko works with numerous businesses in the hospitality industry. We offer dedicated and simple processes to segregate and recycle waste and convert waste to energy.
